Consumers who don't sign a contract for natural gas or electricity are served by a default retailer.
The default rates are reviewed and approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The following tables show the approved default electricity and natural gas rates for residential and small business consumers across Alberta.
Electricity
The Rate of Last Resort (RoLR) is the default rate for electricity. This was formerly known as the Regulated Rate Option (RRO). The RoLR will be in place until December 31, 2026.
These rates do not include billing and delivery costs. Compare retailer plans and check distributor fees in the Cost Comparison Tool.
